CLG Connacht / Connacht GAA SFC 1999 Recap

The 1999 Connacht GAA Senior Football Championship was fairly predictable with Mayo, Roscommon and Galway winning through the First Round as expected versus New York, Leitrim and London respectively. Mayo had over double the score of Roscommon in Castlebar in the Semi-Finals (0-21 to 0-10) while Sligo put three goals past Galway in the other Semi-Final, but Galway still managed a draw before winning the replay by a wide margin in Tuam. The Final, also in Tuam was a closer affair than any match previously bar the Semi-Final draw, with Mayo winning out 1-14 to 1-10 to go on to the All-Ireland Semi-Finals. [References: 2]

CLG Laighean / Leinster GAA SFC 1999 Recap

There Westmeath lost 1-8 to 1-16 at Croke Park in a double-header with Offaly triumphing 0-11 to 0-7 over Kildare in the other fixture. The Previous weekend another double-header, again at Croke Park, saw Meath easily dispose of Wicklow 2-10 to 0-6 and Dublin defeat Louth 2-15 to 0-14. Meath continued their fine form in the Semi-Finals, winning 1-13 to 0-9 versus Offaly, while Dublin knocked out Laois 0-16 to 1-11, but needed a Replay in order to do so. In the Provincial Final Meath triumphed 1-14 to 0-12 over the Dubs, with Ollie Murphy contributing 1-5 to the Royal County’s total, and Trevor Giles adding another 0-5. [References: S-2]

In the other two Quarter-Finals Down won by a goal and a point versus Antrim and Tyrone more than doubled Fermanagh’s total in two games featuring neighbouring rivals. The Semi-Finals were both close with Armagh defeating Derry by a point and Down winning by 2-14 to 0-15 over Tyrone. The Ulster Final saw Armagh score three goals to progress to the All-Ireland Semi-Finals with a 3-12 to 0-10 defeat of next door Down. [References: S-2]
