Proposal for GAA All-Ireland Championships 2040
There has been much talk about giving Inter-County Gaelic Football players more games to play in the All-Ireland Football Championship, given that they train all year round for their Championship season to end after just one (or now two) games if they are eliminated early.
The Eirball proposal is to create Group Stages first, but keep the Provincial Championship set-up. Each Provincial Championship could be divided into groups of three, playing two games each, with the winners of each group progressing to the next round. The group second and third place enter the Tailteann Cup.
For this to work smoothly, New York must go into Connacht (bringing Connacht up to six counties) and London, Warwickshire and Lancashire go into Ulster (but playing in a group of their own initially), bringing Ulster up to 12 counties.
Following further Provincial Finals (and Semi-Finals in the case of Ulster and Leinster) the All-Ireland Series features the traditional four provincial champions. Likewise the Tailteann cup is based on further provincial knockout rounds before the All-Ireland Series.
In time the Provincial Championship Groups can become six county groups (just one each in Connacht and Munster and two each in Leinster and Ulster) with the group winners and runners-up progressing to Provincial semi-finals and finals.
World Games (B Championship) 2040
The World Games (B Championship) shall consist of the remaining Britain, American and World counties along with the playing 3 group based championship based initially within each GAA “Province” outside of Ireland and the 32 traditional counties. The four provincial winners then meet for the B Championship Finals series. For the purposes of this Championship, Brittany and Galicia have been granted their own GAA County status and are in the Britain Provincial Championship.
GAA Development Championship 2040
For the purposes of promoting the GAA in non-traditional areas, the GAA Elevens and Sevens have been set-up, with Eirball proposing an All-Ireland Championshiop featuring the seven Gaeltacht Areas, the six new Super Districts in Northern Ireland, Four County Boroughs and City Boroughs in Dublin, and the four City Boroughs in the South & West. Each of these four Areas shall play a “Provincial Championship” of six games each (five in the case of Northern Ireland) and then the winners shall play in the All-Ireland Series. Clogher Valley could be brought in as a seventh Super District in Northern Ireland to give each Area six games each.
